Former Republican Congressman; January 6th Committee Member; Trump Impeachment Vote
Former U.S. Representative (IL-16); Air Force Veteran; January 6th Committee Member
Adam Daniel Kinzinger is a former Republican U.S. Representative from Illinois who served from 2011 to 2023. An Air Force veteran who flew combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan; Kinzinger became one of the most prominent Republican critics of Donald Trump and one of only two Republican members of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th attack on the Capitol. He was one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for incitement of insurrection in January 2021; a vote that effectively ended his political career within the Republican Party. Kinzinger served as a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard; flying RC-26 surveillance aircraft and KC-135 tankers in Iraq; Afghanistan; and along the southern U.S. border. On the January 6th Committee; he played a prominent role in public hearings; particularly in questioning witnesses about Trump's actions during the insurrection and the pressure campaign to overturn the 2020 election results. His participation on the committee led to death threats against him and his family; including threats against his wife and newborn child; from Trump supporters. The Republican Party censured him in February 2022 for his committee participation. Rather than face a difficult primary in a redrawn district; Kinzinger chose not to seek reelection in 2022. He became a CNN contributor after leaving Congress.
