Overview

Anatoli Samochornov is a Russian-born American translator and former State Department contractor who attended the June 9; 2016 Trump Tower meeting as the interpreter for Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. The meeting; arranged by publicist Rob Goldstone on behalf of the Agalarov family; brought together Donald Trump Jr.; Jared Kushner; and Paul Manafort with Veselnitskaya and other Russian-connected individuals. Samochornov testified before the Mueller grand jury and the Senate Judiciary Committee about what occurred during the meeting. He stated that Veselnitskaya primarily discussed the Magnitsky Act and Russian adoption policy rather than providing promised opposition research on Hillary Clinton. His testimony corroborated accounts that the meeting was brief and that the Trump campaign officials appeared disappointed by its content. Samochornov had previously done contract translation work for the U.S. State Department and was hired by Veselnitskaya specifically for the Trump Tower meeting because of his professional translation credentials.
