Overview

Andrew Mark Cuomo served as the 56th Governor of New York from 2011 to 2021. In early 2021, multiple women came forward with allegations of sexual harassment against Cuomo, ultimately totaling 11 accusers. New York Attorney General Letitia James released an independent investigation report in August 2021 concluding that Cuomo had sexually harassed multiple women, including current and former state employees, in violation of federal and state law. The investigation found Cuomo groped, kissed, or made inappropriate comments to women. Separately, Cuomo's administration was found to have significantly undercounted COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes by only counting residents who died at nursing facilities, not those who died after being transferred to hospitals. The true death toll was approximately 50% higher than reported. Cuomo's administration had issued a directive requiring nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients from hospitals. Cuomo's top aide Melissa DeRosa admitted the administration withheld the data from state legislators. Cuomo resigned in August 2021 to avoid impeachment.
