Conservative Journalist and Provocateur; Antifa Chronicler; Accused of Proud Boys Coordination
Editor-at-Large; The Post Millennial; Author of "Unmasked"; Controversial Journalist
Andy Cuong Ngo is a Vietnamese-American conservative journalist and provocateur best known for his coverage of Antifa and left-wing protest movements; particularly in Portland; Oregon. As editor-at-large of the Canadian conservative outlet The Post Millennial; Ngo has built a significant following on social media by documenting and amplifying left-wing political violence; earning both praise from conservatives who see him as a courageous reporter and severe criticism from journalists and researchers who accuse him of selectively editing footage; decontextualizing events; misidentifying individuals as Antifa; and functioning more as a right-wing activist than a journalist. In June 2019; Ngo was attacked at a Portland rally by individuals identified as Antifa members; sustaining injuries including a reported brain hemorrhage. The assault garnered significant national attention and became a rallying point for conservatives. However; leaked text messages and video footage published by the Portland Mercury and other outlets appeared to show Ngo interacting cordially with members of Patriot Prayer (a right-wing group) before a violent confrontation at a Portland bar called Cider Riot in May 2019; and discussing with them the anticipated presence of Antifa members. Ngo has been accused by multiple journalists and researchers of sharing personal information about left-wing activists that led to threats and harassment. He authored the book "Unmasked: Inside Antifa's Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy" (2021); which was criticized by academics and journalists for mischaracterizing the decentralized nature of Antifa and inflating its organizational coherence. He has filed multiple defamation lawsuits and has also been sued himself. Ngo holds dual U.S. and U.K. citizenship and has faced criticism for his coverage of Portland protests while living abroad in London for extended periods.
