Prime Minister of South Africa (1958-1966)
Architect of Grand Apartheid
Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd is known as the "Architect of Apartheid" for designing and implementing the comprehensive system of racial segregation in South Africa. As Minister of Native Affairs (1950-58) and then Prime Minister, he created the Bantustan system, forcibly relocated millions of Black South Africans, implemented the Bantu Education Act to deliberately limit Black education, and oversaw the Sharpeville massacre. His policies systematically stripped millions of their citizenship, dignity, and rights.

Implemented the Bantu Education Act (1953) deliberately providing inferior education to Black children - stated: "There is no place for [the Bantu] in the European community above the level of certain forms of labor"
Oversaw the Sharpeville massacre (1960) where police killed 69 unarmed protesters, many shot in the back
Group Areas Act enforcement: forcibly relocated over 3.5 million Black, Coloured, and Indian South Africans from their homes
Banned the ANC and PAC after Sharpeville, driving resistance underground
