Former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor

Henry Kissinger served as National Security Advisor (1969-1975) and Secretary of State (1973-1977) under Presidents Nixon and Ford. During his tenure, he was directly involved in policies that resulted in the deaths of millions of people: the secret bombing of Cambodia (1969-1973, estimated 150,000 civilian deaths), support for the Pakistani military's genocide in Bangladesh (1971, 300,000-3,000,000 killed), the CIA-backed coup in Chile (1973) and subsequent support for Pinochet's dictatorship, support for Indonesia's invasion of East Timor (1975, 100,000-300,000 killed), and a documented meeting in which he signaled support for Argentina's Dirty War. Despite multiple requests from courts in France, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, Kissinger was never extradited or prosecuted. He died in November 2023 at age 100.
