Jon Burge was a Chicago police commander who, from 1972 to 1991, systematically tortured over 200 Black men to extract confessions. His methods included electric shocks, suffocation, and beatings. At least 20 of his victims were wrongfully convicted and spent decades in prison. He was only convicted of perjury due to statute of limitations on torture.
