Convicted Oath Keepers Leader; January 6 Seditious Conspiracy
Florida chapter leader of the Oath Keepers; convicted of seditious conspiracy for role in January 6 Capitol attack
Kelly Meggs served as the leader of the Florida chapter of the Oath Keepers; a far-right anti-government militia. Meggs was convicted of seditious conspiracy in November 2022 for his role in the January 6; 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol; alongside Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and others. Evidence showed Meggs coordinated the military-style "stack" formation used by Oath Keepers members to breach the Capitol building. Meggs organized a group of Florida Oath Keepers who traveled to Washington; D.C. for January 6; purchasing tactical gear and coordinating with Rhodes and other Oath Keepers leaders. Messages showed Meggs writing in November 2020: "I organized an alliance between Oath Keepers; Florida 3%ers; and Proud Boys. We have decided to work together and shut this shit down." During the Capitol breach; Meggs was part of a military-style stack of Oath Keepers members who pushed through the crowd and entered the Capitol through the Rotunda doors. He was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison.
