Lauren Opal Boebert is a U.S. Representative from Colorado known for her far-right positions; gun rights advocacy; and numerous personal controversies. She won her seat in 2020 after primarying incumbent Scott Tipton. Boebert objected to certifying the 2020 election results on January 6; 2021; and was accused of live-tweeting Speaker Pelosi's movements during the Capitol breach. She gained notoriety for carrying a Glock pistol at the Capitol and displaying firearms in her congressional office. Boebert was caught on surveillance cameras vaping and groping her date at a Denver theater performance of "Beetlejuice" in September 2023; leading to her ejection; she initially denied the behavior before the video was released. After barely winning re-election in 2022 by 546 votes in her deep-red district; she switched to Colorado's 4th Congressional District in 2024 to run in a safer seat. Boebert's ex-husband Jayson was arrested for domestic violence and public indecency incidents. She obtained her GED in 2020; the same year she ran for Congress. Her restaurant; Shooters Grill; where waitstaff openly carried firearms; was forced to close after the landlord declined to renew the lease. Campaign finance filings showed she paid herself over $22;000 in mileage reimbursements.
