Lee Smolin is a theoretical physicist at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo; Ontario; known for foundational contributions to loop quantum gravity and cosmological natural selection. He is a prominent critic of string theory; arguing in his 2006 book "The Trouble with Physics" that the field has become a sociological phenomenon detached from empirical testability. Smolin became connected to the Epstein funding scandal through the broader network of elite scientists Epstein cultivated.
