New York Attorney General
Successfully prosecuted $355 million civil fraud case against Donald Trump and the Trump Organization
Letitia "Tish" James is the 67th Attorney General of New York; the first African American and first woman to hold the office. James led the civil investigation and prosecution of Donald Trump and the Trump Organization for fraudulently inflating the value of assets to obtain favorable bank loans and tax benefits. In February 2024; Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay $355 million (plus pre-judgment interest totaling approximately $454 million) in penalties after finding Trump liable for persistent fraud. James also oversaw the dissolution of the Trump Foundation in 2018 for "persistently illegal conduct" including self-dealing and coordinating with the Trump presidential campaign. She led the investigation into sexual harassment allegations against former Governor Andrew Cuomo; which found Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women; contributing to his resignation in August 2021. James has also pursued cases against gun manufacturers; pharmaceutical companies in the opioid crisis; and the National Rifle Association for financial misconduct.
