Former Federal Prosecutor and Trump Campaign Attorney
Attorney who promoted election conspiracy theories, indicted in Georgia RICO case, pleaded guilty to reduced charges
Sidney Katherine Powell is a former federal prosecutor who became a prominent figure in the effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. She publicly claimed that voting machines were part of a vast international conspiracy involving Venezuela, Cuba, and China. She filed multiple lawsuits challenging election results that were dismissed by courts. She was briefly part of Trump's legal team. Powell was indicted in August 2023 in the Fulton County, Georgia RICO case alongside Trump and 17 other defendants, charged with conspiracy to commit election fraud for her role in the January 2021 breach of election equipment in Coffee County, Georgia. In October 2023, she pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with performance of election duties. As part of her plea deal, she agreed to testify against co-defendants, pay $6,000 in fines and restitution, serve six years probation, and write an apology letter.
